This important Guardian article highlights why getting surplus food to people who need it matters so much.

At Memnosyne UK Chapter – FoodSource UK, we are developing our Merthyr Tydfil hub to receive bulk food donations and distribute them to local food banks, pantries and community groups that lack the capacity to handle large deliveries themselves.
Our aim is to strengthen the work already happening locally, reduce food waste and help more families access good food with dignity.

Building the partnerships, funding and infrastructure to make this possible is at the heart of our work.
Good food should reach people who need it. Yet, as this article highlights, the economics can work against that aim: businesses may find it cheaper to waste surplus food than to donate it, while incentives favour other disposal routes.

Many companies are already doing their bit. We need a system that supports their efforts and makes feeding people the first priority for edible surplus.

Alongside practical action, we need policies that make donating food the easier, financially viable choice.
