Merthyr Tydfil is where the FoodSource UK journey begins.
Rising food and energy costs are placing increasing pressure on local families and community food organisations. By listening to those already working on the front line, we are building a hub that responds directly to local needs, strengthens existing support networks and ensures that more good food reaches people across the community with dignity and care.

01 The Situation
Nearly three-quarters of neighbourhoods across Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney have been identified as priority areas where people are likely to face serious challenges accessing affordable food.
Rising food and energy costs place additional pressure on household budgets, often forcing families to make difficult choices between buying nutritious food, heating their homes and meeting other essential needs. this can restrict access to fresh, healthy food and increase anxiety around putting food on the table.
Already Responding
Building on the community’s existing assets.
Local food banks and food poverty strategies are already at work providing emergency food and support for those in crisis, and developing strategies to reduce food poverty and improve the
local food system.
The community’s task is to recognise these existing assets and work together to build resilience in a food system less vulnerable to external factors. That is the role of the Food Source UK hub: shared infrastructure, logistics and coordination for the organisations already at work.
